Historic Mesilla is a friendly town located in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, United States. One of the town's major features is the historic Mesilla Plaza.  The town encompasses 5.4 square miles with neighboring Las Cruces approximately 4 miles away. As of the 2000 census Mesilla had a population of 2,180.

There are multiple options for higher education surrounding the town. Neighboring Las Cruces is home of the New Mexico State University. Under 50 miles away El Paso offers El Paso Community College and a campus of the University of Texas. Primary and secondary students are served by the second largest school district in the state, Las Cruces Public School District. The district public schools located in the town of Mesilla include San Andres High School, Mesilla Elementary and Mesilla Park Elementary.

Mesilla is a lively town with a rich history. The Mesilla Plaza is a National Historical Landmark. Impressively, buildings from when the town was first founded still remain today. Although the Plaza was originally used as a place of defense, today it is largely a commercial center. Many of the town's annual events take place here including the Cinco de Mayo and 16th de Septiembre Fiesta Celebrations. The Fountain Theatre is another popular local spot. It has been in the community for over 100 years and features daily films.
