The proud home of the New Mexico State University, Las Cruces is a beautiful city located in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. The 2010 census accounted for 97,618 people making it the second largest city in the state.

The city’s main institute for higher education is the New Mexico State University. Nearby Universities and colleges can be found in neighboring El Paso. Options include EL Paso Community college and a campus of the University of Texas. Primary and secondary students are served by the second largest school district in the state, Las Cruces Public School District. The largest public schools include Las Cruces High, Mayfield High, Oñate High, Sierra Middle, Vista Middle and Tombaugh Elementary. Opening in 2012 will be a fourth high school, Centennial High.

Ask any resident and they’ll tell you the annual Whole Enchilada Fiesta is one of the cities biggest events. In 2004 at this event Las Cruces made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records for making the world’s biggest flat enchilada. The Southern New Mexico State Fair usually follows this event taking place a few days later. For those who love the great outdoors Las Cruces has a number of parks great for outdoor recreation. A few of these include Young Park, Preciado Park, Pioneer Park and Apodaca Park.
